Glass, as a medium, has a relationship with light that is one of mutual attraction and enhancement. This not only explains the relationship between glass and light but also perfectly interprets the collaboration between two artists from the East and the West.
In the creations of artist Colin Reed, one can feel that light gives his works a kind of multidimensional space extended through highly refined reflection; the works of artist Loretta Yang make glass a solid that flows, as light brings out a deeper value in the internal space of the work.
Colin Reed and Loretta Yang complement each other,虚实相济, allowing us to see a broader world in their works. But how to combine different materials, languages, and styles? These practical issues suddenly cease to be a consideration for the artists. They show immense courage, completely letting go of their reservations, exploring the possibilities of integration. The creative process is very lengthy, and every technical detail is extremely difficult to adjust, but the two artists do not consider these difficulties. After a long process, they finally complete the work. They both cast aside all their original boundaries, fuse their languages together, and tell the same story. Like the collision of glass and light, it extends our vision and thinking.
Colin Reed is known as the master of illusion glass. In the 1970s, Reed became a student of Keith Cummings. His creative inspiration revolves around the textures of the world, nature, and human culture. We can sense a sense of consistency and focus from his casting to kiln-casting processes, and even in the characteristics of optical glass, reflecting his contemplation of the real world. His most famous work in Mainland China is the "Bamboo Scroll," a four-meter-high glass and steel structure installation permanently displayed in the lobby of the Shanghai Library.
